New York Times Autorenewal Settlement Gets Initial Court Nod

The New York Times would pay $275,000 to resolve allegations it failed to sufficiently notify North Carolina readers that their subscriptions renewed automatically, under a settlement that received a federal judge’s initial sign-off.

The class action, brought by lead plaintiff Megan Perkins, alleged that the Times website and app violate North Carolina law that requires merchants to disclose what parts of a contract will change upon automatic renewal in sufficiently noticeable text.
