New York Court System Names New Head of Problem-Solving Courts

The New York state court system’s top administrative judge announced Rensselaer County Court Judge Debra Young will lead the operation and expansion of more than 340 problem-solving courts.

Chief Administrative Judge Joseph Zayas said Tuesday that Young, as the new Statewide Coordinating Judge for Problem-Solving Courts, has the “high level of experience, knowledge, and tenacity needed” to lead efforts to refine and expand specialty courts that address substance use disorders, mental illness, and other issues that bring people into the court system.
