New York City Trims Claims in Bias Suit From EMS Officers, Union

New York City couldn’t escape some of the discrimination claims lodged by emergency medical services officers and their union but was ordered Tuesday to address alleged disparities in its employment practices.

New York was granted partial summary judgment on two EMS officers’ and Local 3621’s Section 1983 claims as well as disparate treatment claims from the officers under federal and state law, Judge Lewis J. Liman said. But the US District Court for the Southern District of New York denied summary judgment on the officers’ disparate impact claims under Title VII and New York state and city’s human rights laws. ...
