The New York Attorney General is appealing an injunction blocking it from attempting to ban Upsolve Inc.'s legal training program for debt counseling because the services amount to unlicensed practice of law.
Judge Paul A. Crotty of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York issued the preliminary injunction in May, ruling that New York’s unlicensed practice of law rules can’t apply to the debt counseling program because “the First Amendment protects their legal advice as speech.”
