New Relic Founder’s Personal Emails Shielded by Delaware Court

Personal emails from New Relic Inc. founder and former CEO Lew Cirne are protected from a shareholder investigation into the cloud analytics company’s $6.5 billion take-private sale last year, a Delaware court ruled Monday.

New Relic produced over 9,000 pages of documents in response to books-and-records demands from pension funds investigating potential breaches of fiduciary duty and the independence of the company’s board and management. But it balked at providing Cirne’s personal emails, which the pension funds sought regarding the rollover of Cirne’s equity in connection with the merger.
