Netradyne Inc. collected and disclosed the facial scans of users of its driver-monitoring system in violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, a proposed federal class action said.
Erishaun Ross, in a complaint filed at the US District Court for the Southern District of California, alleges that Netradyne’s system used facial recognition technology to assess distracted-driving behaviors, such as drowsiness and texting while driving, and collected drivers’ facial scans without obtaining their informed consent as required under BIPA.
The company’s collection and use of biometric information exposed users to “serious and irreversible privacy risks,” according to the Monday filing. ...
