Netgear Inc. accused an online scammer of copying its trademarked name to further a scheme selling fake products and stealing personal information from unsuspecting customers.
NETGR Router and up to five unnamed co-conspirators are infringing Netgear’s trademark, engaging in unfair competition and false designation, and violating California business law, according to the lawsuit filed Monday in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Netgear asked the district court to enjoin the defendants from using its intellectual property and to award it damages, including $2 million in statutory damages, according to the complaint.
