NetChoice Wins Block of California’s Online Marketplace Law (1)

Online marketplaces such as Amazon.com Inc. and eBay Inc. cannot be subjected to enforcement of a California law requiring them to track merchants and report when they sell stolen goods, a federal court ruled Friday.

Judge Beth Labson Freeman of the US District Court for the Northern District of California granted tech industry trade group NetChoice LLC’s request for a preliminary injunction, finding that the state law, SB 1144, is preempted by a pair of conflicting federal laws.

The ruling against state Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) is the second decisive injunction NetChoice has won to block California’s internet laws. ...
