NetChoice is suing in federal district court to block South Carolina’s Age-Appropriate Design Code Act, arguing the law imposes an unlawful censorship regime in violation of the First and Fourteenth amendments.
South Carolina’s law requires covered websites to exercise reasonable care to prevent minors from engaging in compulsive use, experiencing severe emotional distress, or suffering privacy violations, NetChoice said in a complaintthe group on Tuesday said it had filed. It also requires websites to disable core discovery, engagement, and interaction features that disseminate speech, the tech trade association said.
