Nespresso Sued Over Right to Use Third-Party Coffee Capsules

Nestlé SA unit Nespresso USA Inc. illegally requires coffee machine buyers to use expensive Nespresso capsules to keep their warranties in effect, a consumer alleges in a new proposed class action in a New York federal court.

Abigail Shaughnessy says she bought a Nespresso Vertuo Next Premium Coffee Machine in July 2020.

Shaughnessy would have liked to use cheaper third-party coffee capsules, but her warranty implied that she was prohibited from doing so, she says in a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
