Nespresso, K-fee Agree to End Patent Lawsuit Over Coffee Pods

A German company agreed to dismiss claims that Nespresso USA Inc. infringed three of its patents that relate to a barcode system for coffee capsules.

Judge George H. Wu, of the US District Court for the Central District of California, dismissed the case with prejudice Wednesday, after the case was stayed in May pending settlement talks. K-fee System GmbH in 2021 alleged Nespresso’s Vertuo line of coffee machines and pods, which use “capsule recognition and a barcode system to prevent third-party capsules from being used” in the products, infringed K-fee’s patents.
