Navient Beats Former Law Student’s Breach of Contract Claims

Navient Corp. defeated a former law student’s claims that the student loan servicing giant breached its contract by changing the terms of her loan.

Former law school student Joy Johnson and her uncle and co-plaintiff, Micah Brown, brought a suit against Navient in a California court, alleging contract, negligence, and consumer protection claims. The loan provider removed the suit to federal court. Johnson and Brown followed with a motion to remand the case and filed an amended complaint; Navient, meanwhile, moved to dismiss several of their claims.
