Nationstar Mortgage Sued Over Data Breach Affecting 4.1 Million

Nationstar Mortgage LLC failed to protect the personal information of more than 4.1 million people that was exposed in an Oct. 31 data breach, a proposed federal class action said.

John McCartney alleged Nationstar failed to implement reasonable and appropriate data-security safeguards and failed to properly vet its internal systems and third-party vendors, which allowed the breach to happen.

Information exposed in the breach included Social Security numbers, first and last names, dates of birth, and addresses, according to a complaint filed Nov. 4 in the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
