X Corp.'s lawsuit against an Israeli data collection company over allegedly illegal web scraping practices was tossed out Thursday by a San Francisco federal judge.
Judge William H. Alsup said the Elon Musk-owned social media platform formerly known as Twitter “wants it both ways” when it comes to maintaining a legal safe harbor against copyright lawsuits while preventing others from scraping public user data.
X can’t use terms of service contracts to prevent Bright Data Ltd. from scraping public content because the platform doesn’t own the copyrights to user content, Alsup said.
