Monterey Park Shooting Survivor, Victims’ Families Sue Studio

A survivor and relatives of four people who were killed in a 2023 mass shooting at a Monterey Park ballroom dance studio sued the studio Friday, alleging the studio should have been more secure.

The studio owner knew or should have known about crime near Star Ballroom Dance Studio and should have hired guards and installed security cameras and better lighting to prevent it, the complaints said.

A shooter killed 11 people and injured nine others after he opened fire on Lunar New Year’s Eve. He killed himself as police officers approached him the next day.
