Montana-based software company WaterStreet Co. is facing a proposed class action alleging it negligently failed to protect the personal information of more than 25,000 people that was exposed in a March data breach.
Lead plaintiff Robert Alejnikov alleged that WaterStreet breached its duties under common law, contract law, industry standards, and the Federal Trade Commission Act to implement reasonable and adequate data-security measures and provide timely notice of the breach.
Information exposed in the incident included names, Social Security numbers, and bank-account information, according to a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Montana.
