MLB Umpire Angel Hernandez Will Appeal Loss of Job Bias Lawsuit

Cuban-born Latino umpire Angel Hernandez will appeal his loss in his lawsuit against Major league Baseball alleging that race, color, and national origin discrimination blocked him from World Series-game assignments and promotion to crew chief, New York federal court records show.

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York granted summary judgment to the MLB commissioner’s office and Major League Baseball Blue Inc. March 31, finding Hernandez failed to show the reasons given for his not being promoted to crew chief and not being selected to officiate World Series games were a pretext for intentional bias.
