The state of Missouri has filed a reverse-discrimination suit against a high school athletics association, saying its policy of holding two board seats open for women and people of color is “patently unlawful.”

The Missouri State High School Activities Association policy violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because it “ties eligibility for its at-large positions on its Board of Directors to racial and sex-based qualifications,” the complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri said.
