Minnesota Can Expand Illegal Gun Sales Case Against Fleet Farm

Minnesota can amend its lawsuit against big-box retailer Fleet Farms LLC to add new claims that the company violated the Minnesota Gun Control Act by selling to straw purchasers, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

Judge John R. Tunheim, of the US District Court for the District of Minnesota, said the Minnesota attorney general has the power to bring such claims, rejecting Fleet Farms’ argument that the state gun control law falls outside the office’s scope.

“The statute unambiguously authorizes the Minnesota Attorney General to bring the State’s proposed MNGCA claim and the new requests for relief,” Tunheim said.
