Minnesota Attorney Beats Restraining Order Petition on Appeal

A lawyer in Minnesota is free from a lawsuit seeking a restraining order against him after a state appeals court held Tuesday that there wasn’t sufficient evidence that the attorney harassed his client’s ex-girlfriend.

Brita Springstead filed a petition for a harassment restraining order against attorney Allen Peterson, who represented Springstead’s ex-boyfriend in two cases, in October 2021. Springstead’s petition was tied to two conversations with Peterson and two incidents at Springstead’s residence.

The referee recommended that the petition be dismissed and the district court confirmed the recommendation and dismissed the HRO petition.
