Miley Cyrus ‘Flowers’ Discovery to Split Liability, Then Damages

Discovery in the copyright case against Miley Cyrus for her song “Flowers” will be split to first address liability and then damages, a Los Angeles federal judge ordered.

Judge Dean D. Pregerson granted the motion to bifurcate discovery during a hearing Monday in the US District Court for the Central District of California, saying he’s reluctant to grant such motions but found it necessary given the case. The owner of a share of rights to Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” brought the lawsuit against twenty-nine defendants, and it raises confidentiality issues.
