Michigan Tax Return Preparers Face Justice Department Lawsuit

The Justice Department has filed a complaint to bar J&A Tax Services LLC, doing business as Equitax, in addition to other Michigan tax return preparers, from owning or operating a tax return preparation business and preparing tax returns for others, according to the agency Wednesday.

The civil complaint alleges the defendants prepared customer returns using false or fabricated deductions and credits. The DOJ also alleges in the complaint that in 2022 alone, of the 865 returns they filed, at least 98% claimed a refund.
