Michigan Schools Challenge Privilege Waiver for Funding Law (1)

More than 30 Michigan school officials sued to block a new state requirement that school districts, in exchange for public money for safety, waive legal privileges that otherwise protect certain information from being disclosed after a mass casualty event.

The legislature this year added the requirement to waive “any privilege” after a tragedy for districts that receive state money for use addressing student mental health and school safety, which went into effect Oct. 7.
