Michigan Doctor Fails in Bid to Undo Fraud, Drug Convictions

A Michigan pain management doctor lost an appeal to undo convictions for unlawful distribution of controlled substances, health care fraud, and conspiracy when the Sixth Circuit on Wednesday rejected his “many” challenges to the trial proceedings.

The appeals court also affirmed David Jankowski’s 20-year prison sentence. He was convicted on 30 of 32 counts in July 2022 following a weeks-long jury trial in Detroit.

Jankowski claimed on appeal that the government relied on summaries of selected allegedly fraudulent claims, rather than the claims themselves, and therefore failed to prove that he in fact submitted fraudulent claims to Medicare. But he ...
