Michigan laws banning therapists from trying to change a minor’s sexual orientation or gender identity are unconstitutional, a group of Catholic therapists allege in a new federal lawsuit.
“Instead of allowing counselors to help children explore the underlying factors that may be contributing to their distress, and to help them accept and embrace their biological sex,” the statutes at issue force “counselors to ‘affirm’ children in the belief that they were born in the wrong body,” the lawsuit says.
