A Michigan man charged with unlawfully possessing metallic knuckles lost his constitutional challenge to the state’s ban on appeal.
Although the plain text of the Second Amendment could be read to cover brass knuckles, Frederick Dummer V’s constitutional challenge failed because there’s a history of states regulating the weapon dating back to the 1840s, Judge Christopher M. Murray of the Michigan Court of Appeals wrote in a Tuesday opinion.
Dummer was charged with violating a provision in Michigan’s constitution banning the possession of metallic knuckles.A lower court denied Dummer’s motion to dismissthe indictment.
