Michaels Stores, Artist Reach Settlement to End Trade Dress Suit

Michaels Cos. settled claims with a ceramics artist who alleged the retailer copied several of her sculptures without her consent.

Katharine Morling and the company filed a stipulation of dismissal Tuesday to Judge Vernon S. Broderick of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, after they reached a settlement in principle earlier this month. Morling sued Michaels in 2023, alleging the company reproduced or copied “numerous details” of several of her works for its own commercial benefit.
