Michaels Beats Worker Bid to Send Wage Case Back to State Court

Michaels Stores Inc. defeated a worker’s attempt to return a wage-and-hour case to state court after a federal judge determined there’s more than $7.3 million at stake.

The craft-store chain removed the proposed state-law class suit to federal court under the Class Action Fairness Act and met the law’s requirement that there be more than $5 million in controversy, dooming the worker’s request to remand the case, the US District Court for the Eastern District of California said.
