Meta’s $725 Million Deal Resolving Privacy Suit Upheld On Appeal

Meta Platforms Inc.‘s $725 million settlement over claims that Facebook shared user data with third parties including Cambridge Analytica was upheld by a federal appeals court Thursday.

The district court properly evaluated the strength of the plaintiffs’ class action case and signed off on a fair settlement, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said.

The $725 million agreement stems from Facebook users’ claims that the social media giant shared their personal data with Cambridge Analytica, a research firm tied to Donald Trump’s campaign, during the 2016 presidential-election cycle, among other third parties.
