Meta Prevails in Dismissal of Third-Party App Data Class Action

Meta Platforms Inc. convinced a federal court to dismiss a privacy class action alleging the social media platform improperly collected geolocation and other user data from third-party mobile apps without their consent.

When plaintiffs Lisa Tsering and Dominique Davis used MobilityWare’s Solitaire app and Nextdoor, Meta collected data through software development kits, according to their complaint filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

But the complaint failed to plausibly allege Meta knew that it lacked users’ permission to access their smartphones and use their data, so they can’t proceed with a California Computer Data Access ...
