Meta Loses Bid to Overturn Menstrual-Data Wiretapping Verdict

Meta Platforms Inc. failed to toss out a jury’s finding that it violated California privacy law by secretly recording the sensitive menstrual health data of millions of people who used the popular period-tracking app Flo.

Judge James Donato of the US District Court for the Northern District of California denied Meta’s motion for judgment as a matter of law in a Monday order, finding that the jury had sufficient evidence to determine that the social-media company violated section 632 of the California Invasion of Privacy Act when it gathered the personal information of Flo users.
