Meta, Food Banks Sued Over Websites’ Data Sharing, Disclosure

Four California food banks were hit with a proposed federal class action alleging they allowed Meta Platforms Inc.to collect the personal information of visitors to their websites, in violation of the California Invasion of Privacy Act.

The plaintiffs alleged that the food banks incorporated the tracking pixel of Meta’s Facebook unit on their websites, allowing the social media company to access visitors’ financial, medical, and other personal information without their knowledge or consent.

The food banks include Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Central California Food Bank, and San Francisco Food Bank. Meta is ...
