Meta Fails to Get Documents From States in Child Addiction Case

Meta Platforms Inc. can’t force the California attorney general and nearly 20 other states to turnover documents from other state agencies in a wide-ranging adolescent addiction case against the social media company.

A three-judge panel for the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit granted the states’ petition Friday to halt Meta from obtaining the documents through the traditional discovery phase of litigation. The court found that the AG’s offices don’t control documents under other state agencies, such as the governor’s office or state health department.
