Meta Defeats Claims in Hacked Facebook Account Class Lawsuit

A proposed class of Facebook users claiming Meta Platforms Inc. is liable for failing to protect their accounts, which were hacked and misused, had all of their claims against the technology company dismissed by a federal judge Monday, for now.

The proposed class failed to identify breached promises in Meta’s terms of service, Judge William H. Orrick said. The US District Court for the Northern District of California partially granted Meta’s motion to dismiss, leaving the door open for the plaintiffs to file a third amended complaint with more explicit allegations under their theory of liability.
