Mayo Clinic’s $11.5 Million Tax Refund Challenged in US Appeal

The Mayo Clinic shouldn’t be eligible for an approximately $11.5 million tax exemption limited to educational organizations, the US told the Eighth Circuit.

The US District Court for the District of Minnesota ruled last year that the Mayo Clinic is entitled to a tax refund because it was organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes during the years at issue, and it therefore qualified for an exemption under tax code Section 514(c)(9)(C)(i).
