Massachusetts’ Top Court Seeks to Define Edges of State Gun Law

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court justices questioned with an array of hypotheticals the implications of two cases testing whether Massachusetts can apply its gun laws to New Hampshire residents bringing weapons across the border.

The hypotheticals from Monday’s oral arguments demonstrate the remaining uncertainty state courts are facing when applying the US Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. That ruling raises the bar for states to prove that their regulations are constitutional under the Second Amendment.
