The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court appeared wary of making a post-trial inquiry into jurors’ mindset in the high-profile case of Karen Read, who is fending off accusations that she killed her police officer boyfriend.
A trial court declared a mistrial in Read’s case in July after the jury said it was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. But Read’s attorneys said some jurors contacted them after the trial to let them know that the jury was unanimous that she was not guilty on two of the three counts against her, including second-degree murder.
