Maryland Senator Accused of Extorting Ex-Consultant Over Affair

Maryland state senator Dalya Attar, her older brother and a Baltimore City police officer have been charged in a scheme to extort one of her former political consultants in order to silence her anticipated criticism.

The indictment, filed Thursday in the US District Court for the District of Maryland, alleges they conspired to obtain evidence of an affair the consultant, referred to as “Victim 1,” was having with a married man, referred to “Victim 2.”

Their efforts—aided by additional unnamed co-conspirators—allegedly included monitoring the consultant’s travel from Israel to the US, placing a tracking device on her car and bugging ...
