Maryland Hospital System to Pay $8 Million to Settle FLSA Suit

A Maryland hospital system will pay $8 million to resolve allegations it deducted meal breaks from some of its workers’ paychecks despite having worked through those breaks.

LifeBridge Health Inc.'s Fair Labor Standards Act settlement was approved May 1 by Richard D. Bennett in the US District Court for the District of Maryland, according to an opinion that was added to the docket on May 2. The agreement will compensate more than 14,000 members of a putative FLSA collective who were employed as non-exempt employees at LifeBridge entities between Sept. 27, 2020, and May 21, 2024.
