Marriott International Gets Data Breach Classes Decertified

Classes against Marriott International following a data breach of a subsidiary hotel chain were de-certified by the Fourth Circuit on Tuesday, which ruled Marriott hadn’t abandoned its class action waiver argument.

Marriott bought Starwood Hotels in the middle of a data breach in 2016 that involved birthdates and, in some cases, payment information. Some of the victims, now all of the class members, were part of Starwood’s Preferred Guest Program, the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit explained.
