Managed Care Company Hit With $39.9 Million Verdict (1)

Advocate Health Partners and Advocate Good Shepherd Health Partners Ltd. must pay $39.9 million to a stroke victim who claimed a missed diagnosis and inadequate care led to his permanent disability, an Illinois Circuit Court jury found Thursday.

A jury of six men and six women found Antonio DeAngelo’s primary care physician failed to properly test or treat him by not ordering an electrocardiogram or any laboratory tests, and failed to refer him to a cardiologist. DeAngelo subsequently suffered a stroke that left him permanently disabled.
