Major League Soccer Retaliated, Black Marketing Exec’s Suit Says

Major League Soccer, L.L.C. and its subsidiary Soccer United Marketing, LLC, are facing allegations that the companies retaliated against a onetime marketing executive for complaining about what he perceived as racial discrimination.

Cedric Shine’s complaint, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, accuses MLS of unlawfully retaliating against Shine, who is Black, after he complained to human resources about being denied a promotion to senior director that a white colleague received. After his internal complaint, MLS changed course and granted Shine the promotion to senior director.
