Magistrate Recommends Upholding Detainees’ Jail Strip-Searches

Two detainees failed in their constitutional challenge of a policy to strip-search individuals upon their arrival at a Pennsylvania county jail.

The searches of plaintiffs Joyelle Campbell and Clayton Boyd didn’t violate the Fourth Amendment prohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures, because they were reasonably conducted, Magistrate Judge Kezia O.L. Taylor told the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania Thursday, suggesting that the lawsuit be dismissed.
