Former Illinois House speaker Michael J. Madigan amassed and then used outsized political power to “line his pockets” while providing allies with no-show jobs and other benefits, a federal prosecutor argued Monday.
An October 2022 indictment alleged Madigan, 82, the longest-serving House leader of any state in US history, ran a criminal enterprise that sent business to his private law firm, Madigan & Getzendanner, and illegally rewarded friends and political supporters.
