Macy’s Faces California Class in Sheet Thread-Count Label Suit

Macy’s Inc. must face a class of California consumers who allege they were duped by inflated thread counts in certain cotton and polyester sheets, after a federal court in Ohio said common liability issues will take center stage in the litigation.

Sara Hawes alleges she bought “Somerset” sheets labeled with a supposed thread count of 900. But the sheets have an actual thread count of 249, making them of lower-than-advertised quality, she alleges.

Hawes raised claims under California consumer protection laws, and common law claims for breach of express warranty, fraud, and unjust enrichment.
