Light-Sensitive Utah College Worker to Get Disability Bias Trial

Utah’s Mountainland Technical College may have denied its former director of apprenticeship programs a reasonable accommodation for an eye condition that makes her hypersensitive to certain types of light.

Lori Stewart also raised triable issues on her claims that she was fired because of her disability or for seeking accommodations, the US District Court for the District of Utah said.

The ruling Thursday highlights that employers can potentially be liable under federal disability bias law for delays in the job accommodation process, even if an accommodation ultimately is provided.
