LexisNexis Beats Consumer Suit Over Info Provided to MyLife (1)

LexisNexis Risk Solutions Inc. on Thursday defeated a consumer’s proposed class action alleging it shared her personal data with information broker MyLife.com Inc. in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act, and state consumer-protection laws.

Plaintiff Melissa Wanna argued that she lost employment opportunities because of negative information about her that LexisNexis provided to MyLife, but the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit held that her federal claims could survive only if Lexis was liable for the actions of MyLife as MyLife’s principal in an agency relationship.
