Lee Enterprises’ $9.5 Million Video Privacy Deal Gets Final Nod

Lee Enterprises Inc. will pay $9.5 million to settle a proposed class action alleging it shared the video-viewing information of subscribers with Meta Platforms Inc. in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.

Judge Stephen H. Locher of the US District Court for the District of Iowa gave final approval to the settlement in a Thursday order. The deal appears to be one of the largest yet reached in a wave of lawsuits against providers of video content began in 2022 over use of consumer-tracking technology on websites citing the federal law.
