Lawyers in Wesson Oil False-Ad Suit Propose Fee Cut to Save Deal

Attorneys representing Wesson Oil consumers want a federal court in California to revisit its ruling that scrapped an $8 million false ad settlement with Conagra Brands Inc., asking the court to preserve the deal by lowering their fees.

The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California threw the deal out in December, finding a “staggering” disproportion between the class members’ recovery of about $1 million and nearly $7 million in attorneys’ fees.

Rejection of the entire settlement would likely leave class members worse off, the attorneys told Judge Cormac J. Carney in a filing Wednesday.
