A lawyer was disbarred in New York on Wednesday after the state supreme court’s appellate division held that she misappropriated “substantial funds” from her client, a senior citizen, in part for her own promotional purposes.
Audrey A. Thomas represented Rhea Murray in the sale of real property, and allegedly kept $630,000 of the $770,000 total and used some of it to promote herself as an author and radio show personality. Thomas previously claimed she had permission to take the funds in part for owed legal fees, but Murray denied that in her testimony.
